NCAA Champ Bubba Jenkins Joins American Top Team for Move to MMA
2011 NCAA wrestling champion and 2008 runner-up Bubba Jenkins has joined American Top Team to begin his MMA career.
Jenkins originally told SBNation?s Luke Thomas about his?move into MMA in April before hinting at his camp choice in May via Twitter.?ATT formally announced the news today:
Bubba is now fully committed with his MMA career and will move down to American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida, where he will join a host of other MMA stars to work with such as: Mike Brown, Cole Miller, Jorge Masvidal, Thiago ?Pitbull? Alves, Hector Lombard, and Gleison Tibau among others.
This is the first wave in American Top Team?s bid to bring high level wrestlers into the mix. We are very pleased Bubba has decided to call ATT and South Florida home.
Jenkins joins a list of former Arizona State wrestlers to join MMA that includes current UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez,?Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson, UFC hall of famer Dan Severn, Ryan Bader, CB Dollaway, and Aaron Simpson.
Jenkins began his career at Penn State University before relocating to ASU in order to start at 157 pounds. In a bit of irony, Jenkins cradled and pinned Penn State freshman phenom David Taylor in this year?s NCAA tournament final.
ATT has been active in reaching out to elite wrestlers to join their camp in order to increase their depth and help their current stable of fighters evolve become more well-rounded.
Jenkins has yet to sign with an organization for his professional MMA debut, but that will likely change in the coming months.
